My sister has cats like these. They are so friendly. This one is adorable. They’re so cute when they’re small, but they’re a lot of fun when they’re big, too.

I have done some research into these cats. Feline aids is definately the cause of these hideous looks. The specimen should be culled ASAP… to stop the spread.
Tiny tiny ears. I have never seen a cat with ears that small. And the face is totally smooshed. It looks deformed. It also looks wall-eyed (opposite of cross-eyed). It should be ugly, and yet it is overwhelmingly cute.
It must be the small, fluffy & helpless points. It will grow up to be one ugly cat.

Eugh. Only humans can take something as majestic as a lion and reduce it to such a thing. That kitten is not cute, it’s a grotesque expression of cruelty. Both calico cats and Persians are known for having a large number of genetic disease, this is due to our merciless inbreeding of them over thousands of years. A cat that is both calico and Persian, as this one is, is more or less doomed to a short, painful life. You’ll note the position of the eyes (particularly in picture 10) appear skewed. This is due to a condition known as strabisumus, caused by improper function cranial nerves that govern ocular muscles. Over time, this kitten will loose the ability to process visual information from both eyes, as parts of the brain that receive garbled information begin shutting down, a condition known as amblyopia.
Note also, in picture 11, the abnormal eye coloring of what I can only assume is the kittens mother. This is not a normal eye color. Rather, this condition is being produced as the mother’s liver is functioning abnormally. Probably because the mother has feline hepatic lipidosis, where the liver becomes engorged with excess fat. FHL is, in turn, caused by a genetic disease that is common in Persians, called Polycystic kidney, that frequently affects liver function in addition to slowly destroy the kidneys. In short, the mother is dying in slow motion. So will the kitten.

You diagnosed all that by googling persian and calico? Wow, I guess the world doesn’t need veterinarians.
1) House cats did not come from lions… they share a common ancestor, but domesticating and breeding cats has not changed their size much (yes, some “desirable” traits have been selected for, such as flat noses).
2) This cat simply has a breed conformation of anatomically wide-set eyes. Young kittens often have that look of “lateral strabismus,” but this is not a disease. She will look a lot like her mother when she grows up.
3) The mother has yellow colored irises. Icterus, or jaundice, can turn the sclera (the whites of the eyes) yellow, but a yellow iris can be normal for a cat. When looking straight at you, often the sclera of a cat is not visible, and an eyelid must be lifted to see it.
4) Fatty liver disease, or hepatic lipidosis, often occurs after an overweight cat becomes anorexic, and the liver mobilizes too much fat. Having icterus or jaundice is one sign of liver disease, but is in no way specific for hepatic lipidosis.
5) While polycystic kidney disease is a bad disease, and does occur in persian cats more often than domestic short-hair cats, it is still uncommon, and this mother cat shows no evidence of that disease.
6) Calicos are a normal genetic variant, and were not selected for. In cats, the X sex chromosome has information for what pigment to produce, and determines whether a cat is black or orange. Calicos have two X sex chromosomes, as is typical for any female mammal, but they have one chromosome with an orange gene, and one chromosome with a black gene. This is why they have an orange and black mottled appearance. In some areas, one X chromosome is active, and in other areas it is the opposite one. No diseases I can think of are associated specifically with female calicos. Male calicos are rare, and happen to have two X chromosomes, and one Y, or XXY. They have other genetic abnormalities, as do many animals with “trisomy,” or three of a chromosome. Down’s syndrome in humans is one form of trisomy.

Having been the proud owner of a male calico who, unfortunately, only lived 8 years, I feel qualified to comment on this. Yes, he died young, but for those 8 years he was very much loved and had a rich full life. Why would we have deprived him if those years?
I work with people with Down’s syndrome and they are charming people who contribute much to other’s lives. Yes, they have problems, but to deprive them of the right to life is just wrong. You so-called bioethesists make me sick!

I think everyone is missing the point in this, does everyone notice the fact that both cats ( one being the mother) have identical facial features. How often do you ever see the kittens markings matching that of their mothers,hence the title.

Also the kitten looks barely 3 weeks old, hello, how much excitement should it have, it’s just a little kitten. I think it is a happy kitten but probably didn’t like a camera in it’s little smashed face.

Did no one notice the identical markings these cats have? The older one obviously being either the mother or father cat, but it’s rare that kitten’s hold the same markings as their mother and or father.

It has nothing to do with what you people are saying, it’s not AIDS or anything other disease, it’s about the uniqueness of these two cats. Period
Bulldogs have flat, squished faces. Are they genetically inferior? There are many breeds of cats, and between those breeds are many genetic variants. Unfortunately, we’re not all perfect. I’m a man who’s 5′8″. It’s sad that I missed the evolutionary step necessary to reach the top shelf. Guess I’d better be euthanized.

My little girl loves these kittens. She says, “mommy loves them kittens cuz they is cute.” I wish everyone had her innocence. She pets the screen of the computer and says my loves you kittens. I just like how cute they are.
One of my kitten made pee on the floor so i pressed her head into it (maybe a little bit to hard).

This cat actually was voted Cutest cat award and still holds it,even as an adult(who is also very dashing). so those of you who say tis cat is hideous or distressed is in the minority and are half wrong. Yes, you are entitled to your opinions, but this cat was born like this ,(as well as completely content with its entire life),but continues to be as cute and adorable as the day she/he was born.

Although it originally was known as “Down’s Syndrome,” after Dr. John Langdon Down, it is commonly called that in the UK. Here in America, it’s most often known as “Down Syndrome.”

Looks like a normal American Persian to me, (Peeked, or Ultra Persian) they’ve been bred with the flat faces and little ears, and despite what it looks like, the eyes are normal sized, they seem larger because of the face. Oh and cause no ones bothering to point it out.. Like humans, a felines eyes are full sized at birth, they never grow, so yes, the eyes are funny looking, but once they’re in an adult head, they’ll look fine. This one looks to be about 3 - 4 weeks old.. and the bath is a good idea, if its a purebred, which it looks like, it may be a show cat, and they have to be bathed often. Getting them use to it at an early age is always a good idea, as long as you know what you’re doing, and this person seems to. As for all the pictures.. How many stupid outfits and silly poses do parents put their kids in as babies? Please.. can you people find something else to whine about? Its a kitten for crying out loud.

Somehow I just thinkthat maybe these people who posted the pictures would have taken their cat to the vet… ya know, had their shots given to them and probably would even know if their cat was sick. For you people harping on the unhealthy colour of the eyes, the tonal hue and colour saturation could be a product of photoshop, I often increase the saturation of of certain areas (like eyes or the tones of the fur), and adjust the tonal ranges to create a more dramatic image. Those are some cute shots, especially the mother/daughter one.
I have a very strong feeling that those are Maine Coon Cats/kittens.

Dear me, you are all fucking retarded. The cat doesn’t have Downs Syndrome, it is a Persian, and plenty of Persians live long, healthy lives. Calico is a coat color, not a breed. The cat’s mother’s eyes are not an abnormal color, and not every cat that has copper-colored eyes has kidney problems.

Calico cats often have eyes of this colour. It’s not unusual. And this kitten is very young so eyes that don’t focus properly yet are quite normal.
I wouldn’t bath a kitten at such a young age, nor would I put it through anything distressing for the camera. Looks like her Mum was nearby to reassure her, though. I wouldn’t consider this to be animal cruelty. And I am active in animal welfare groups.

I am so surprised at some of the comments made. These cats are wonderfully created by a higher power and made perfectly. Some of you state that they need to not live a life with such looks or possible illnesses. My question to you is “would you wish yourself or a “human” loved one to have life cut short because of looks or POSSIBLE illnesses? GOD forbid!

Funny. Some say these cats should be killed because they are “sick” and will eventually die after a short life. Almost all Persian cats have these golden brown and sometimes orange-brown eyes. The cats in these photos appear closely related to Persians, as if a mix of Scottish Folds (the ears) and Persians.
